Bright & White Towel Upkeep

When it comes to towels, there is nothing like a fresh, white towel to make you feel relaxed and refreshed. However, white towels come with a stigma. They are easily perceived as a hassle to upkeep and many people quickly reject the idea to even have one in their possession. There is also the mentality that we simply do not want to deal with the hassle of keeping things white, after all, the last thing we are looking for is to overcomplicate our lives. But who says we can’t have resort-style white towels without the hassle? To those I say, think again. It is as simple as a splash of bleach.

The trick is always to keep the whites together and to wash in warm or hot water. Make sure to wash with your regular laundry detergent and add the splash of bleach into your bleach dispenser, not directly onto your towels. I typically use less than ¼ cup of bleach when washing a medium-sized load. A double rinse will ensure the bleach smell is eliminated and once dried, you will have beautiful white towels that will delight anyone who uses them when they come into your home.

Now, white towels are also a style preference, not everyone likes the look or lack of color that white towels have. But to those who love the simplicity and classic feel that white linens have to offer, here are a few extra tips on how to help maintain your precious towels bright and white.

Be sure to provide them for your guests and the adults in your home only. Kids can sometimes have a harder time of keeping things pearly white. So if you have struggled with numerous stains on your white towels because of your little ones, I recommend letting them use a more colorful option for their everyday use. Besides, kids love color and colored towels are a great way for our little ones to know who’s towel belongs to who.

Ladies, use a designated washcloth, whether it be an older washcloth or a colored one, for makeup removal. Keeping one washcloth that serves one purpose will make not only your life easier, but it will help to ensure that the rest of your towels’ brightness will have a longer life expectancy.

Try to only use your white towels for the bathroom necessities such as bathing and hand drying. Use different towels for the pool, beach, outdoor activities, or house cleaning. White towels will show dirt, grass, rust, or just about anything much easier than colored ones.

Wash your towels once a week. This is a no-brainer, particularly for cleanliness purposes, but white towels will start to show their use much sooner than colored ones. So having a regular wash cycle is crucial to helping maintain their clean, bright look.

Ultimately, your mindset plays a huge part in helping to keep your towels pearly white. By simply being conscious of your everyday use for them and having a regular washing routine with, a splash of bleach, you will get to enjoy luxurious, resort-style towels from the comfort of your home.
